Failed test — frequently asked questions

How soon can I rebook my test after failing?
You must wait at least 10 working days before retaking your practical test. Use this time wisely to address the areas flagged on your test report.
What are the most common reasons for failing?
The most common faults include not checking mirrors correctly, junctions, moving off safely, reversing manoeuvres and positioning. Your test report will show exactly which faults you received.
Will the same examiner test me again?
It's possible but not guaranteed. Examiners are assigned randomly, so every test is a fresh start with no memory of your previous attempt.
Do I need to rebook my theory test too?
Only if your theory test certificate has expired (it lasts 2 years). Otherwise your original theory pass still counts and you can rebook the practical straight away.
How many people fail their test first time?
Around 50% of learners fail their practical test on the first attempt — so you're in good company. With targeted lessons from RED, your chances of passing next time improve significantly.
